Written by Aurela Selimi, 7th cohort August 2025

As an Albanian, third-generation from Paris, and I’m so excited to share my experience as part of the 7th generation of Original, August 2025. This journey was unlike anything I’ve ever lived before.

Honestly, I was really nervous about starting the program. I was also super excited because I really wanted to discover my roots, but I had a lot of fears. I’m Albanian from Paris, and even though there are Albanians here, our community isn’t that connected. I’m also Albanian from Macedonia, and I worried that maybe people wouldn’t fully consider me Albanian because of that. On top of that, English isn’t my first language, I speak French and my Albanian is the dialect from Kërçova, which is quite unique: I can understand everyone, but not everyone can understand me perfectly. I also know standard Albanian from my courses, but still… I wasn’t sure how well I’d be able to connect with everyone. But in the end, it turned out to be incredible, I connected so deeply with everyone, and it made the experience even more unforgettable.

When we arrived, the first night was the inauguration, it was magical. I still remember the energy in the room, the excitement, the laughter, everyone trying to remember names, nervously introducing themselves, and already connecting. It didn’t feel like just the start of a program; it felt like the beginning of a family. From that very first night, I knew this experience was going to be unforgettable.

The next day, we really started our journey. We spent the day getting to know each other, doing icebreakers, and working in small groups on different activities. We also did some volunteering thanks to OJQ TOKA, which helped us bond even more and gave us a glimpse into everyday life there. Then, the next day, we visited Prishtina, the capital. We explored the library, the museum, and the history of the city. Prishtina is really marked by its war history, and its communist-style architecture, which I had noticed before in my previous visits. But it’s also a lively, multicultural city, very different from other cities in Kosovo.

After Prishtina, we went to Prekaz, where we met Vlora Jashari, a descendant of Adem Jashari. She shared the story of her family and the sacrifices they made. Visiting their home, learning about their history, and laying flowers in respect for those who died, it was an emotional moment, and yes, we cried. I didn’t expect to, but seeing the reality of what they gave for our freedom was overwhelming.

Then we headed to Prizren, where we stayed in a lovely hotel and explored the city. Prizren is rich in culture, with a strong mix of Albanians, Turks, and Serbs. We visited mosques, including Bektashi mosques, as well as Orthodox and Catholic churches. Walking through the streets, seeing all these different communities side by side, it was truly special. We even climbed up to the castle, Kalaja, which holds marks of the UCK from the 1990s war. And to top it off, we went on a zipline adventure together. It was challenging but so much fun, and it brought the group even closer. That night, we went to the cinema to see Superman, and afterwards, some of us went to a local restaurant called Evropa, which is open 24/7. The food was amazing, and I highly recommend it.

The following day, we went to Krushë e Madhe, a village in western Kosovo’s Rahovec municipality. Our first stop was the Massacre Museum, which tells the story of the war and the atrocities committed there. What struck me the most, as a historian, was that this museum is not a top-down narrative; it’s a horizontal one, created by locals for locals. The exhibits included personal testimonies from villagers about how they survived, rebuilt their lives, and preserved their memories. We were also given books documenting this history, including A Village Slain: First-Person Accounts of Genocide by Serbian Police, Paramilitary, and Serbian Kosovar Citizens during the 1998/1999 War of Liberation by Agron Limani and Qemajl Krasniqi, which serve as a powerful reminder that these events must never be forgotten.

Later, we visited Cooperativa Krusha, a women-only specialty foods company run by Fahrije Hoti and the women of Krushë e Madhe. This initiative was born out of immense loss: during the Kosovo War, more than 250 men and boys from the village disappeared, presumed victims of mass killings. The women created this cooperative as a way to rebuild their community and provide economic opportunities for themselves while honoring the memory of their lost loved ones. Seeing their resilience and determination was incredibly inspiring, it was a moment full of admiration and respect. The cooperative is also known across Kosovo for its ajvar, a traditional Balkan condiment made from bell peppers and eggplants.

Later, we had a moment of relaxation and reflection led by Vlera, which was a calm, zen moment where we could check in with ourselves and each other after living so intensely together for a few days.

In Gjakovë, we enjoyed a guided city tour, explored the charming old town, and visited the Bonevet innovation center for youth. Later, we shared a beautiful meal at Liqeni i Dukagjinit and danced together, it felt like a small Albanian celebration. We also learned traditional dances from each participant, each of us sharing a piece of our region, from the north, south, or central. It was such a joyful, unifying moment.

Kosovo also showed us its rich religious diversity : Muslim, Catholic, Albanian, but what truly united everyone was our shared culture rather than faith. We visited vineyards, tasted local wine and raki, and spent evenings together sharing meals, playing games, and strengthening our bond. The mornings were early, the travels long, but every moment was unforgettable.

From Kosovo, we took the bus to Shkoder, Albania, and then continued our journey on a two-hour boat ride. The boat ride was pure magic, full of singing, dancing, and laughter. Everyone was in high spirits, and even the other passengers joined in the fun, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

Shkoder itself was incredible. We explored the city’s history under communism, visited its landmarks, and even celebrated a birthday of one of our group members, which added a very personal and joyful touch to the day.

From there, we traveled south to Gjirokastër, a UNESCO World Heritage site and, for me, the absolute highlight of the trip. Walking through its cobblestone streets, exploring the castle, and visiting the old town was like stepping back in time. We also visited the birthplace of Enver Hoxha, which gave a unique perspective on Albania’s history. The architecture, the views, the atmosphere, it was breathtaking. I felt a deep connection to the city and completely fell in love with it. Every corner told a story, every street was alive with history, and I couldn’t stop imagining the lives that had passed through this incredible place. Gjirokastër quickly became my favorite city of the entire journey.

Next, we went to Sarandë. On the way, we stopped at the Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër), a breathtaking natural site. We also visited the Butrint archaeological park, exploring Albania’s ancient history and reflecting on how proud it makes you feel to see the legacy of our people. In Sarandë, we explored the city and the castle. The next day was “beach day,” one of the most anticipated moments. The hotel had its own private beach, and we spent the day swimming, playing, relaxing together, despite the rocky beach, the water was crystal clear. That evening, we walked along the promenade, enjoying the albanian summer night vibes.

Finally, we headed to Tirana. On the way, the bus was alive with singing, dancing, and even karaoke. Tirana was a city I had passed by many times but never truly visited. We explored mosques, bunkers, Mother Teresa Square, and the old dictator’s house. The evening life was vibrant, and I felt safe, especially being with the group.

The next day, we visited Krujë, Skanderbeg’s castle, and the old market. We enjoyed traditional Albanian food and bought souvenirs, including the traditional plis hats.

Our last evening was an Albanian Night, where we wore traditional clothing and experienced what a real Albanian wedding feels like. It was emotional, fun, beautiful, but also bittersweet because we all knew the journey was ending. The next morning, some people left early for flights. We had a closing session and wrote letters to each other, and yes, I cried more than once.

These 13 days were the most intense, emotional, and incredible days of my life. I laughed, I cried, I danced, I lost my voice, I sang. I met people I’ll never forget, created bonds that feel like family, and shared moments I’ll treasure forever. Coming back home to Paris, it was hard, I was physically there, but my mind was still in Kosovo and Albania. I’m eternally grateful to OriginAl, to GERMIN, to all the staff, and to the 39 amazing participants who made this journey unforgettable. I know I’ll keep in touch with them, visiting them around the world, and keeping this family alive.

A huge thank you to the incredible staff who made OriginAL possible:

Era – the heart and mind of the program. She meticulously prepared and organized everything down to the smallest detail, while still living the experience with us at 200%. She gave 1000% of herself so that everything would run smoothly and so that each of us would feel at home. She truly was our big sister throughout the journey, always present, always in a good mood, even when we were running late (sorry Era!). Without her dedication, energy, and care, none of this would have been the same.

Dafina – who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organize and coordinate everything, making sure that every part of the program was ready for us.

Vlera and Dardan – who captured every single moment in photos and videos, giving us memories we’ll keep forever.

Andi – our doctor, who took care of us throughout the program and made sure we were safe and well.

Dionisis – our amazing tour guide and volunteer, who shared with us the history and culture of each city, making the whole experience so much richer.

Lirim – our director, thank you for accompanying us throughout this journey and supporting us along the way.

If anyone reading this is hesitating about joining the program, I hope that after reading my story, you won’t hesitate anymore. This experience is truly life-changing, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Faleminderit nga zemra të gjithëve që e bëtë këtë eksperiencë të paharrueshme.

What happens when 36 young Albanians from 13 countries come together to explore the lands of their ancestors? You get OriginAL — a two-week journey filled with connection, discovery, and moments that stay with you long after the suitcases are unpacked.

It all kicked off in Prishtina, where the energy was contagious and the anticipation high. On the campus of RIT Kosovo, participants were welcomed by familiar faces who believe in this mission — from Ms. Liza Gashi of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, to Mr. Lavon Bajrami of RIT, and Mr. Xhelal Derguti of GIZ. GERMIN’s Co-Directors, Sihana Bejtullahu and Lirim Krasniqi, set the tone with a reminder: this is more than a trip, it’s a chance to rediscover who you are.

From the first team-building games at Innovation Centre Kosovo to laughter-filled rope-pulling competitions in Gërmia Park, bonds started to form quickly. “I didn’t think I could feel so close to people I met just yesterday,” said one participant. But that’s OriginAL. It creates instant belonging.

The journey took a deeper turn in Prekaz, where the story of the Jashari family came alive through Sala Jashari’s powerful words. Silence fell as participants laid flowers at the memorial, each one reflecting on sacrifice, strength, and what it means to be free.

In Gjakovë and Krushë e Madhe, they met women who rebuilt their village from the ashes of war through a powerful agricultural cooperative. In Pejë, they stepped into the House of Judo, where Kosova’s champions are made. “It made me proud in a way I’ve never felt before,” someone shared.

Then came Prizren — colorful, historic, and unforgettable. Walking through cobbled streets, climbing the fortress, visiting the League of Prizren museum, and hearing from Veton Nurkollari of Dokufest, participants saw how tradition and innovation coexist.

Week two brought new energy as the journey continued into Albania. In Shkodër, participants walked through the Museum of Memory, where stories of political persecution during communism offered space for reflection and important conversations about freedom and justice. In Durrës, they explored the city’s ancient Roman Amphitheater, stood by the Venetian Tower, and stepped inside the Turkish Hammam, experiencing layers of history that still shape Albania today. The day ended with music, dancing, and a seaside cultural dinner.

In Vlorë, the group boarded a boat and sailed along the Ionian coast, visiting Haxhi Ali’s Cave and the Karaburun Peninsula, where Albania’s natural beauty unfolded in full. From the water to the mountains, the next stop was Berat, where participants climbed through the white-walled neighborhoods of the castle and heard stories passed down through generations. A traditional lunch rounded out a day rich in history and hospitality.

In Krujë, they followed the footsteps of Albania’s national hero, Skënderbeu, through the castle grounds and into the museum that honors his legacy of resistance and unity. The journey ended in Tirana, where the group explored the capital’s energy, joined a creative workshop with BetaPlan, and shared one last celebration during Albanian Night. Laughter, music, and farewells filled the air as the participants looked back on two weeks that shaped their view of home and each other.

OriginAL has become more than just a trip for the fourth year since its inception – a call to return to the roots, a personal journey to discovering oneself. The 2025 application cycle again demonstrated this, as hundreds of young Albanians worldwide expressed a clear goal: to connect with their ethnic and cultural heritage. That goal is now taking shape as the program’s first tour of 2025 kicks off on June 3 in Prishtina.

Diversity that becomes one
Young Albanian diaspora members applied from every corner of the world, from Canada to Germany, the United States to Australia, and Portugal to Norway and Romania. Though they were born or raised in different countries, they all long to understand their ancestors’ history, learn about their origin countries’ present, and seek inspiration for the future.

This year, 120 young diaspora members with diverse backgrounds and contexts from 25 countries will journey through Kosova, Albania, and North Macedonia to create lifelong friendships and join a global, growing network of alumni of the program. Many have never visited the countries of origin before; others spent a week or two with grandparents during childhood in the region. But all of them now (re)turn with a more profound sense of purpose.

More than a trip…
For many, this journey is about discovering something personal. One applicant wrote that music had always been their bridge between the homeland and the diaspora, but they longed to hear those songs where they were born. Another expressed a deep desire to move beyond stories passed down by parents who lived through the war of Kosova, and instead witness the country’s progress firsthand. Others hoped to build lasting friendships with fellow young Albanians who understand what it means to grow up distant from our homeland.

OriginAL: A Bridge Home

As the first cohort of 2025 prepares to begin their journey, they carry more than luggage. They bring with them stories heard at dinner tables, songs sung in faraway living rooms, and dreams shaped by both distance and longing.

OriginAL bridges generations who remember and those who are just beginning to understand. Between countries where Albanians live today, and the homelands that live in their hearts. It’s a bridge from inherited memory to lived experience.

OriginAL serves as a bridge by creating a space where young Albanians reconnect with their identity not through textbooks or headlines, but by walking the streets their ancestors once did, by speaking Albanian language with peers, and by feeling at home—perhaps for the first time—in a place they’ve never lived.

Our identity doesn’t fade across borders. It travels with us. It evolves, and when nurtured, it grows stronger. Through OriginAL, our youth find that being Albanian isn’t just about where you were born, it’s about who you are, and how you choose to carry that forward.

For every young person who steps off the plane and onto this journey, OriginAL is a bridge back to something bigger. And for the community that supports them – it’s an investment in a future that’s rooted, proud, and united.

By Gjovani Cinari
Born and raised in England, with Albanian roots in Shkoder, Albania

Growing up as part of the Albanian diaspora in England, I always felt connected to Albania, visiting often and proudly embracing my roots in Shkoder. But when I embarked on the OriginAL programme, I realised there was so much more to discover. This journey was more than a chance to explore Albania and Kosovo—it was an opportunity to reconnect with my heritage on a deeper level, alongside fellow Albanians from across the globe.

When I first applied for the 2024 cohort, I didn’t know what to expect. I was excited but also nervous about spending two weeks with people I had never met. However, from the moment I joined the WhatsApp group, my excitement grew. Seeing participants from the US, Germany, Switzerland, and so many other countries made me realise the incredible diversity within our shared Albanian identity. We were all coming together for one purpose: to rediscover our roots.

Tirana: The Journey Begins

Our journey began in Tirana, where we were welcomed with open arms. The Germin team set the tone right away, making sure we felt at home. We started with an initiation circle, sharing fun facts and our hopes for the journey ahead. What struck me the most was how quickly we all bonded, as though we had known each other for years. We weren’t just participants in a programme—we were family.

Our first few days in Tirana were filled with discovery. We explored the capital’s rich history, including visiting the Bunk’Art Museum, where we learned about the dark years of Albania’s communist past under Enver Hoxha. Walking through the tunnels and seeing the remnants of that era was both chilling and eye-opening. I realised how little I knew about Albania’s recent history, and it made me appreciate the resilience of the Albanian people even more.

We also had our first group activity with Beta Plan, where we participated in fun challenges designed to help us get to know each other better. It was a great way to break the ice and bond as a group. That evening, we attended a panel session featuring successful members of the Albanian diaspora who had returned to Albania to start businesses. Their stories were inspiring, especially hearing about the challenges they faced moving back and how they overcame obstacles to build thriving companies. It gave me hope and reinforced my own desire to one day contribute to Albania’s growth.

Exploring Berat and Vlora: A Deeper Connection

From Tirana, we travelled to Berat, a city known for its stunning Ottoman architecture and deep historical significance. One of the highlights was our visit to the Nurellari Winery, where we met the family that runs the winery and learned about their journey to export Albanian wine across Europe. Hearing about their success gave me a sense of pride in the potential of Albanian businesses.

In Berat, we also had the opportunity to learn traditional Valle dancing—a moment I will never forget. As someone who isn’t that good at Valle, I was a bit nervous, but fellow participants helped guide me through the steps, and soon enough, we were all dancing and singing together. It felt like a true celebration of our heritage, especially when Ardit, a participant from the US, played the tupan (a traditional Albanian drum). The energy and joy in that moment were contagious.

Our journey continued to Vlora, where we visited the National Museum and learned about the city’s pivotal role in Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire. It was here that I really felt the weight of Albania’s history and the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom. We also enjoyed some lighter moments, such as a ferry ride to Karaburun and Sazan island, where we sang and danced together, connecting even more as a group.

Shkoder: A Personal Connection

One of the most emotional parts of the trip for me was visiting my hometown, Shkoder. I was proud to show the group where I’m from, and I was particularly moved when we visited the Museum of Witness and Memory, which focuses on the resistance to Albania’s communist regime. Seeing the cells where political prisoners were held and learning about their fight against oppression was an emotional experience, not just for me, but for the entire group. We ended the day sitting in a park, reflecting on our journey so far. As we shared our thoughts, it was clear that we had grown closer as a group, bound by the experiences we had shared.

Kosovo: Resilience and Inspiration

Leaving Albania behind, we crossed into Kosovo—a place I had never visited before, but had always felt connected to. Our first stop was Gjakova, where we enjoyed the local dish “samun me suxhuk” and learned about the city’s history and its recovery from the war. What touched me most was discovering the historical ties between Gjakova and Shkoder, two cities connected through trade and education.

In Peja, we heard from an Albanian war veteran who shared his personal experiences of fighting for Kosovo’s independence. His stories of sacrifice and unity were incredibly moving, reminding us of the price paid for freedom. We also had the privilege of hiking the Rugova Mountains with Mrika Nikçi, the youngest woman to complete the 7-peak challenge. Her determination and achievements were an inspiration to all of us, and the hike was a powerful metaphor for the journey we were on together—supporting each other every step of the way.

In Prizren, we visited the League of Prizren and the Krusha e Madhe memorial. Meeting Miradije Ramadani, a war survivor who now runs Vigani Foods, was one of the most powerful experiences of the trip. Her story of resilience and rebuilding after losing her family in the war was heartbreaking yet inspiring. She has turned her tragedy into a mission, creating jobs and helping her community through her business. Her strength left a lasting impression on all of us.

Another emotional moment came when we visited the Jashari Family Memorial in Prekaz. Learning about Adem Jashari and his family’s heroic stand during the Kosovo War was incredibly moving. Sitting with Sala Jashari, Adem’s niece, and hearing her speak about her family’s legacy was something I will never forget.

Pristina: Closing the Journey

Our journey concluded in Pristina, where we explored the capital city and visited key landmarks like the National Library, the Heroinat Memorial, and the Newborn Monument. We also participated in DITA E SOLIDARITETIT, a volunteer programme organised by Doka, where we worked with local businesses, with all proceeds going to charity. It was a rewarding way to give back to the community that had welcomed us so warmly.

The final night was bittersweet. We had a farewell party with the Germin team and past participants from previous cohorts, sharing stories and reflecting on the incredible journey we had all been on. The next morning, we gathered in a circle, writing personal notes to each other—a final, emotional moment that brought the journey full circle.

Gjovani Diaspora Discussions: Capturing Stories Through Interviews

One of the unexpected yet deeply rewarding aspects of my journey with OriginAL was the opportunity to interview the majority of the group. What started as a simple icebreaker—using my camera and microphone to get to know people—turned into something much more meaningful. When I mentioned that I work as the Marketing and Business Development Coordinator for Young Professionals and create TikTok content, my curiosity about my role sparked conversations. People naturally wanted to be involved, and soon the interviews became a way to dig deeper into the experiences of the Albanian diaspora.

Some of these interviews lasted over 20 minutes, as participants opened up about their personal journeys, the challenges they’ve faced as Albanians living abroad, and what this trip meant to them. Hearing these stories gave me a new perspective on our shared heritage, and I felt incredibly grateful to the group for trusting me with their thoughts and experiences.

What started as casual conversations has now evolved into the Gjovani Diaspora Discussions, a series that we’ve launched on OriginAL’s Instagram account. Through this series, you’ll be able to see the interviews I had with group members, where they share their unique stories about life as part of the Albanian diaspora. It’s a project I’m proud of, and I hope it gives others a glimpse into the richness of our community.

A Journey that Changed Me

Looking back on my time with OriginAL, I realise that this journey wasn’t just about rediscovering my heritage—it was about personal growth, connection, and understanding. I learned more about Albanian history, culture, and resilience than I ever could have imagined. But perhaps more importantly, I formed deep, lasting friendships with people who, like me, are proud to call themselves Albanian.

The Germin team deserves endless gratitude for making this all possible. Their attention to detail, from the professional photographers and videographers who captured every moment, to the daily updates that kept our families informed, allowed us to focus entirely on being present in the experience. It was clear that their mission—connecting Albanians around the world—is something they live and breathe.

To anyone in the Albanian diaspora, I can’t recommend the OriginAL programme enough. It’s a life-changing experience that will leave you with a deeper understanding of your roots, lasting friendships, and a renewed sense of pride in your heritage. I’m forever grateful for this journey, and I know it has shaped the person I am today.

Are you a young individual of Albanian origin, aged 18 to 24, looking to explore your cultural roots and connect with your heritage? The OriginAL program offers an extraordinary educational and cultural journey designed to deepen your understanding of Albania’s rich history and traditions. With a focus on connecting young Albanians from the diaspora with their homeland and peers, OriginAL promises an unforgettable 2 week trip that is both enlightening and enriching.

What Does the OriginAL Trip Include?

The OriginAL program meticulously plans visits to over 13 handpicked cities across Kosova and Albania and now, excitingly, North Macedonia. Each city is chosen for its significant historical, cultural, and heritage value. But what truly makes this trip special? Here’s what’s included:

Cultural Immersion: Explore cities teeming with history, culture, and Albanian heritage, offering a firsthand experience of the country’s rich traditions.

A FREE Trip: From transportation during the program to two daily meals, accommodation, and all organized activities and tours, everything is taken care of.

Educational Activities: Enjoy guided tours, museum tickets, and a variety of cultural activities designed to educate and inspire.

Expanding Horizons

In an exciting development for 2024, the OriginAL program is expanding its itinerary to include North Macedonia. The expansion of the OriginAL program to include North Macedonia reflects a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and cross-cultural exchange. By bridging geographical and cultural divides, the program empowers young Albanians of the diaspora to embrace their heritage, celebrate their identity, and contribute to a more interconnected global community.

Testimonials That Speak Volumes

Participants from previous cohorts have described the OriginAL program as a transformative experience.

Vasiliki Kontouri was among the 30 participants who participated in OriginAL in November 2023. Having had an amazing experience, she calls the program original, just like its name. Vasiliki encourages all young Albanians in the diaspora to apply for OriginAL 2024 and join in on the adventure.

“For me, the OriginAL program is exactly what the name implies. Original. Such a special and unique experience that has filled me with memories, feelings, and emotions that I cannot put into words. Within 2 weeks, I was given the opportunity to touch history, sights, tastes, and traditions up close, and it brought me closer to my origin, but above all, through OriginAL, I met wonderful people that I can call my friends, and I am very lucky, and I will always have you in my heart. “

If Endrit Ipekli had to sum up his experience in one word, it would be enchanting.

“Every person had a story to tell, and the atmosphere was one of genuine warmth. It was heartening to witness everyone extending a helping hand, whether it was with the language, teaching them the unknown history, or simply embracing the culture.”

The experience was unforgettable for Stella Mishi, mainly due to the fact that this experience has encouraged her to speak Albanian more.

“Each of us had different accents and dialogues, and I understood that this was the beauty of it. We all expressed ourselves with our own way of speaking. We always understood each other and, in my opinion, also pushed each other to speak and practice it more. “

Inspired by his sister’s participation during the first cohort of OriginAL, Kutay Yapici applied to be part of the program’s third cohort. Kutay’s grandparents emigrated from Albania to Turkey decades ago and he has never experienced Albanian culture this close.

“The Albanian music and dances were very beautiful.”

Because she had always longed to have a deeper connection with her roots, Zana Simnica applied to OriginAL to get to know her heritage.

“Growing up I never had Albanian friends, and the only exposure to Albanian culture and language I had was when I was with my family. As I got older, I started to notice that I was missing Albanian relationships outside of my family, as well as a regret of mine to not have been more involved in learning and embracing Albanian culture when I was younger. I applied to OriginAL because I believed it would help me achieve these two things.”

Florent Sahiti suggests that OriginAL is an opportunity to seize and make the most of it.

“Such programs often involve learning about the history, traditions, and culture of the heritage in question. Connecting with others who share the same heritage can create a sense of belonging and emotional connection. This can be especially important for people who may have grown up in a different cultural environment. Visiting the homeland or regions associated with our heritage can be a powerful experience. It allows us to see the places their ancestors came from, which can enhance their connection to our heritage.”

In an inspiring leap forward for cultural connection and heritage exploration, OriginAL proudly announces its expansion into North Macedonia. This significant move aims to unite young Albanians across the globe, fostering a sense of unity and shared identity. The program, renowned for its dedication to connecting the Albanian diaspora’s youth, is introducing one of its three scheduled cohorts for this year to the historic landscapes and vibrant cultures of North Macedonia.

Dive into the Heart of Skopje

Our journey commences in Skopje, a city where the past and present converge. Participants will be captivated by the iconic Stone Bridge arching over the Vardar River, a symbol of the city’s endurance and beauty. The bustling Old Bazaar, with its intricate network of streets filled with history, crafts, and tradition, offers a unique glimpse into the Albanian influences that have sculpted Skopje’s identity.

Tetovo: A Cultural Melting Pot

The adventure doesn’t stop there. Next, we venture to Tetovo, a city celebrated for its stunning landscapes and vibrant cultural scene. Tetovo serves as a testament to the rich tapestry of cultures that have flourished in the city, offering participants a diverse experience that ranges from historical exploration to engaging in the dynamic local culture.

Manastir: The Cradle of the Albanian Alphabet

Perhaps the most poignant stop of our journey is Manastir, a city that holds a special place in the heart of every Albanian. Known as the birthplace of the Albanian alphabet, Manastir is a symbol of our rich heritage and linguistic roots. As participants trace the footsteps of literary pioneers and explore this historical gem, they will be enveloped in the enduring legacy of Albanian culture and language. This experience reaffirms our connection to our heritage and highlights the importance of preserving it for future generations.

Why This Matters

The expansion of OriginAL to North Macedonia is more than just an addition to a new location; it’s a step towards deeper connections within our shared history, culture, and language. By exploring these diverse locales, participants will enrich their understanding of what it means to be Albanian, from ancient landmarks to modern marvels.

OriginAL’s initiative to connect Albanian diaspora youth across borders in North Macedonia exemplifies the importance of cultural exploration and heritage preservation. As we look forward to the enriching experiences this expansion will bring, we remain committed to fostering a sense of unity and pride among young Albanians worldwide.

Applications are open until April 1st, apply now at application.origin-al.org to be a part of this unforgettable experience. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with your heritage and fellow Albanian youth in a deeply meaningful way!
